LFCS began in 1868, in the wake of the Civil war, as a promise to a dying soldier to take care of his surviving son. Ninety-nine years later, what blossomed into an orphanage was eventually sold as a society, and LFCS began to focus on child placement in foster care and adoption environments. The proceeds from the sale of the orphanage were used to create an endowment that has strengthened and sustained LFCS to this day.
Today, LFCS is a statewide organization providing counseling, adoption, crisis pregnancy assistance, foster care, child care, youth mentoring services and disaster relief – reaching out to more than 22,000 individuals and families annually. LFCS is also a strong advocate for Missouri’s vulnerable families and works to improve the state and federal policies that affect them.
November is National Adoption Month and LFCS is putting together (discreet) profiles of kids in foster care that need a sponsor for Christmas. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor please call 417-862-1972. They will connect you with a child you will get to shop for items on his or her Christmas list. Thank you for blessing foster kids and families this year!

LFCS is FULL of sponsors for their Season of Sharing! However, they have started a waiting list for sponsors in case more kids come into foster care between now and Christmas! THANK YOU for caring and taking action! If you still want to give to LFCS, you can give to their Hope Chest or to their birth moms who choose adoption. Call the LFCS office at 417-862-1972 for more information. Thank you.
